The last couple of months have seen many industries having to adapt how they run their businesses. Along with other companies within the construction sector, Citadel Homes continues to modify and respond to the challenges faced by the Covid-19 pandemic. Our priority has been and will continue to be the safety and wellbeing of our customers, tenants, staff and subcontractors.
How did Citadel Homes Adapt during lockdown?
As soon as we learned that Covid-19 was within Cumbria, we quickly implemented stricter hygiene measures across all our sites and within our office. This included a higher provision of safety equipment, hand sanitizer and cleaning products.
Up until mid-March we continued with property viewings on both our high standard sales and rental properties, however we did modify the way in which these were conducted by:
- Waiting outside whilst prospective customers explored the properties.
- Adhering to strict social distancing.
Government advice stipulated that construction could continue within our sector (provided that strict guidelines were adhered to) however, we made the difficult decision that from mid-March we would temporarily suspend construction and close our show homes and office, purely on the basis of the safety to everyone concerned.
During Lockdown we abided by the governments advice and postponed all property viewings. We continued to receive a lot of interest in our last three luxurious properties at The Dell, Talkin (of which one was sold on our first week back in the office!) and for our high spec apartments at Skelton (where only 2 remain!). We also continued to receive interest in our near city centre
The Government advised that as much of the property process should move online. Fortunately, we had already taken the step to give our customers a virtual experience and therefore we were able to showcase our video tours. Having the virtual tour readily available allowed us to accept applications for our brand new rental development in Carrick Square, Denton Holme, even though the tenants hadn’t stepped through the front door!
Existing tenants & Home buyers
When it came to our tenants and buyers, we were very much “open for business” and we continued to offer our first-class service. We acted quickly and as safely as possible to ensure that all emergency maintenance was taken care of. One of our “key worker” tenants expressed their gratitude on how professional and safety conscious the engineer was when they attended to repair a boiler. There have been several recent articles in in the press, highlighting that landlords have been unable to get contractors to attend to their tenants’ homes, to attend to maintenance issues. We are fortunate to have built up close relationships with local reputable contractors, who do not let us down!
All visits to properties were done and will continue to be done in accordance with the government guidelines on working within peoples’ homes.
Citadel Homes’ Strategy
Now that there has been an easing on the lockdown restrictions, and following government advice, we are now excited to welcome potential buyers and renters back to our show homes and to re-start construction.
We implemented government guidelines and are making all necessary steps to help stop the transmission of Covid-19.
How to conduct a viewing safely
- Only members of the same household should attend.
- During the viewing try to avoid touching any surfaces.
- You should not attend if you have any symptoms of Covid-19 or if you are self-isolating.
- All surfaces will be disinfected after each viewing.
These have been unprecedented times! Households have been in lockdown and have had an unusual length of time at home, looking into home improvements. Many have realised that the opportunity to move into a brand new property (where no amateur DIY is necessary!) has never been better.
Finding a new property is a very exciting time and although the process of finding your next home has changed, we hope it will not dampen your spirits!
